Communications Plan

The South Asian Canadian Legacy Project aims to engage South Asians in British Columbia and beyond. By offering a place to share personal stories, preserving historical archives, and nurturing community connections, we aim to collect a wide array of narratives that celebrate the rich legacy of South Asians in British Columbia. Through a series of regular blog posts and updates, our project endeavours to not only honour the contributions of South Asians to British Columbia but also to actively invite participation and contribution from the South Asian community.

Audience:
The audience for this communication plan includes South Asians who have migrated from South Asian countries and have seen the development of British Columbia. They are individuals who want to share their personal stories, experiences, and historical knowledge. Additionally, the audience consists of individuals who are interested in learning about the South Asian community’s contributions to the development of British Columbia and people who want their stories to be told and shown as a part of Canadian history.

Research:
Research will focus on gathering historical information, personal narratives, and archival materials related to the South Asian community in British Columbia. This will involve conducting interviews with South Asians who provide archival material to know their story, gathering photos, and possibly finding lost relationships. The exhibitions are a great way for South Asian people to come together and share their personal narratives. It will provide people with the option to be featured on the Archives. The research will focus on finding more information of the stories provided and connecting the stories to the valuable history of BC.

Spokesperson:
Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains is the founder of the South Asian Canadian Legacy Project and will serve as the spokesperson for the communication efforts. Her passion for preserving South Asian history will lend credibility and authenticity to the project’s message. She has experienced the marginalization of the South Asian community in BC and has started this project to stop this, and bring the South Asian Community the attention they deserve.

Content:
A dedicated blog will serve as the primary platform for sharing stories, archival materials, and project updates. The content will be structured as follows:

Mondays: Feature stories highlighting personal experiences and contributions of South Asians in British Columbia.
Wednesdays: Showcase archival materials and historical documents related to the South Asian community’s history in the region.
Fridays: Provide project updates, upcoming events, and calls for participation.

Calendar:
Posts will be uploaded according to the following schedule:

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Time: 9:00 am Mountain Time.
